Guitar Playing and Minimalism

I got an email from The Recording Revolution that mentioned an interesting quote: “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Author

It’s interesting to me because this is almost EXACTLY what I tell my guitar students. The guitar is a stupid simple instrument to play. You push a string against a fret, pluck the string, then just sit there and enjoy the note. The mechanics of playing the instrument can be learned in a matter of minutes. The thing that you spend the rest of your life working on is getting rid of all the OTHER stuff that happens besides “push, pluck, hold still and enjoy the note.”
