Original Composer: Nobuo Uematsu
I made this to celebrate MAGFest X. I finally got to see my boyhood hero, Nobuo Uematsu, perform live! And I got to take my little boy to the concert. I was so proud when he stood up during “Dancing Mad” and said “DADDY! That’s FINAL FANTASY MUSIC!!!”
tech stuff: The lows in the old version were a bit of a muddy mess. I started from the MIDI file I had made for Terra in Black, ran it through new synths, and threw out all the original audio. In this version, the bass is live. I also had my brother record live violins, which are mixed in with the synth ones. To keep the guitar sound similar to Terra in Black, I used the same guitar (1980 Ibanez Destroyer II). But instead of recording direct through the old Digitech RP-6, I ran through a DOD FX-69 Grunge pedal into my Delta Blues, and mic’d it. The result is a similar sound, but one that breathes a little more. I also double-tracked all the guitars, including the solo. That allowed me to pan them out to the side and give the instruments in the center a little more breathing room.
